New Uzbek-English dictionary presented in Uzbekistan


New Uzbek-English dictionary presented in UzbekistanUzbek experts in collaboration with the U.S. Embassy issued a new Uzbek-English/English-Uzbek dictionary.

Uzbek scientists and journalists gathered on January 31 in Tashkent at the residence of U.S. Ambassador George Krol to participate in presentation of the new dictionary, published with the financial support of the Government of the United States, the U.S. Embassy's press service reported.

Author of the dictionary Shavkat Butayev and other experts of the Uzbek State University of World Languages and the Uzbek Academy of Sciences jointly worked on the project with the support of the U.S. Embassy.

The publication contains 80,000 words and phrases that will be useful for learners of English in schools and universities, as well as representatives of various professions, including military personnel and journalists.

Grant awarded by the U.S. Embassy, covers about 1,000 copies of the dictionary, which will be given to the Ministry of National and Higher Education, universities and public libraries in the country. The U.S. Embassy in Tashkent will also send dictionaries to U.S. universities and colleges that teach Uzbek language.
